You read that right, the first book of the Urban Nordica series, titled Chainbreaker is now available for download in PDF format.
This is, I supposed, what you’d call a beta draft of the novel and here at UN.com we’re going to be running a bit of a social experiment. See, Chainbreaker needs you! In the same way that software needs beta testers to snuff out all the bugs, we want you (yes, you) to help us work out the kinks in our story.
So here’s the deal.
- First off, download Chainbreaker.
- Read it!
- Tell us what you thought. Negative or positive, it doesn’t matter. All we ask is you make a post in your weblog or journal with some feedback. That’s all.
Our favourite critics go in the running to win some hyper-limited edition first press run Really Real Life copies of the book (care of everyone’s favourite vanity press company, Lulu). That’s like two free books for the price of sharing your opinions with the world. Which y’all like doing anyway, right?
Right.
So what are you waiting for? Get reading!

I have not read all of it guys but I read a good chunk of it ending with Josepth’s quarry escaping the second time with Miriah in toll as she cursed in Mandarin.
First of all I like how you describe things. Such as the beginning when the disoriented demon fell into another dimension. I gathered segmund was the demon’s female lover in another life but is a guy in this life. If I’m wrong my apologies. If I’m right it is an interesting concept not done too much before.
I like the way Josepth was described. Kind of like a demonic norse “Angel” and his fight with the mysterious new character the coven was curious about was both dynamic and well played out.
Damien and Risika were fascinating. I enjoyed how Damien had a scottish accent and Risika sounded quite hot to trot. lol.
Of course I most sympathize with the gun tottng Miriah who has not fully come into any kind of extradinary powers yet. I sympathize with her plight and like her I would feel disoriented if all my friends were demons, shape shifters, and reincarnated gods dragging me into their plights.
Anyway here are some opinionated pros and cons. I say opinionated because what I like and dislike is subjective. It does not mean it is wrong or right.
Pros
+ Great fighting cartography. Josepth’s battle with “Mr. Mystery Demon Thing” was breathtaking and worthy of the best comic book square offs.
+ A good mix of characters. It was nice to see everyone was not a complete immortal bad ass. Miriah and the coven while not being the heavy hitters are none the less fascinating. You actually made me want to know more about Damien and Risika.
+ While urban fantasy has been toyed with before your terminalogy and flow for spinning a yarn have some original concepts. The interaction between Sigmund and the dimension jumping demon was well thought out and it raises so many intriguing questions I want to know what their relationship will lead up to with all the differences prevalient in the present dimension.
+ You made me want to read more and do so even when I returned home tired after paying my rent. Believe it or not that says alot.
Cons
- Descriptions are sparse in some cases. In a way this flows more like a riveting comic book than a hefty novel.
- Sometimes the fast and abrupt jumping around between characters had me confused.
- Things about Josepth’s past were brought up such as his interactions with the new Asgardians. Overall it felt like I don’t know Josepth as well as I would like to because the story starts up after he has done so many things before hand. However I’m sure you’ll later include flash backs to fill that in.
- As cool as the fighting scenes and general “bad ass vibe” are this is something constantly used in games such as Devil may cry and in shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Even with your heavy hitters don’t be afraid to show them as more vulnerable and less perfect every once in awhile. Everyone has their vices, addictions, phobias, bad memories, ultier motives, and skeletons in their closets.
Overall? +B. I’ve seen writing alot less talented than this get published. I do think eventually it would be better as a comic book series however it is your choice to tread the path you wish to.

Thank you for your comments! Jesse and I are pondering over them as I type, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the book.
